Our Business

The Pilates Place of Mississippi started as hobby/passion for Sylvia Blackwell.  Having a Dance background in Modern Dance, with a BFA in Dance from the University of Southern Mississippi, Sylvia began Pilates training in 2000 with the only Pilates instructor in the state at the time, Polly Traylor.  Taking over the classes after Polly's return to California, a weekly class along with her own training for more extensive certification, quickly grew into several classes.... hence the business began.

Sylvia started out with a Mat Certification from Body Arts and Science International (2000), then moved on to more Pilates Equipment training in the STOTT PILATES® method.  Finding a partner in business was vital to growth, and that partner became Victoria Ramsay, International Professional Ballerina in 2003.  Vicky's research encouraged the transition to the STOTT PILATES® method, because of their emphasis on anatomy.   After four years of sharing in the hard work, a fantastic business reputation, and a great deal of fun, Vicky decided to leave The Pilates Place to pursue other interests. 

 In October of 2007, The Pilates Place of Mississippi moved into our own Studio in HIGHLAND VILLAGE of Jackson, MS.  Today, we have a most phenomenal faculty, hands down, the best combined expertise in the Southeast!
